You have to give Bugaboo credit for setting the trend and now Mamas and Papas for taking that bit further. The new Skate is not only reminiscent of several high-end buggies, it also brings new features to the market. The most notable is the seat that converts from a carrycot to a pushchair seat in a few easy steps, without removing it from the chassis. Like the Stokke Xplory, the Skate has the ability to adjust the seat/carrycot to any one of three height positions (for sitting at the table or to be closer to mum or dad) once it is on the chassis and it can be fitted to either face forward or face mum and dad. The Skate is highly manoeuvrable with its smaller front swivel wheels and larger pneumatic tyres at the rear all with good suspension, despite the combined weight of chassis and seat coming in at 15kg. Not the lightest buggy out there, but a compact fold without removing the seat. Did you read that Chameleon owners? The Skate folds without having to remove the seat/carrycot. Hallelujah.
And that isn’t all. The handle has a two-way adjustable mechanism for height and then adjusts again for the most comfortable angle. All the other standard features you’d expect from Mamas and Papas are included, such as car seat adapters (for Primo Viaggio), raincover, tyre pump and drinks holder.
The Skate should definitely be considered as an alternative to other buggies at the high end of the market. RRP £575
Skate is available online at www.mamasandpapas.com and all Mamas and Papas stores.
